Oliver Neale

Oliver is a versatile organist, performing extensively as a recitalist across the country. Recent engagements include performances at Truro Cathedral, St Peter Mancroft in Norwich, Truro Cathedral, and a highlight recital at St Paul’s Cathedral in June 2021. Oliver’s debut album - PASSACAGLIA: released in May 2022, includes Passacaglia-based organ music by Bach, Healey Willan, and Kenneth Leighton, recorded on the organs of Truro and St Chad’s Cathedrals, and St Peter Mancroft, Norwich.

Oliver studied at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and graduated with a First-Class Honours Degree in July 2022. Oliver holds the Associate Diploma of the Royal College of Organists, and is a former Organ Scholar at Birmingham Cathedral. Whilst at the Cathedral, he worked closely with the Director of Music in the running of the department, training of boy and girl choristers, and regularly accompanied the cathedral choirs in their weekly schedule of services, concerts and events.

 

Oliver complements his organ studies as a freelance bass-baritone, working with several revered tutors including Russell Smythe, Margaret Kingsley, and Robert Rice. Before moving to Birmingham, he spent a gap year as a Choral Scholar at Truro Cathedral (2017-2018), and performed in frequent radio broadcasts and tours.

As a former member of Genesis Sixteen (2018-2019) and VOCES8 Scholars (2019-2021), Oliver has worked with some of the finest choral ensembles in the country. Recent engagements include the world premiere performance of James MacMillan’s Symphony No. 5 ‘Le Grand Inconnu’ with Genesis Sixteen and The Sixteen, Handel’s Messiah at Trinity College, Cambridge with the Academy of Ancient Music, and a trip to the Netherlands with the VOCES8 Foundation in November 2021.

Oliver is Organist and Choirmaster at All Saints Church in Bromsgrove, where he plays the renowned Tamburini organ and directs the choir for regular services. He does this alongside studying for a Postgraduate Diploma of Secondary Education with the Teach First Training

Programme, and is a qualified music teacher working in a school in South Birmingham.
